A 54-year-old man has died from smoke inhalation in the fire on a ground floor of the Ronda Vilassar block of flats, 10 in Vilassar de Mar (Maresme). A 90-year-old woman was also injured in the accident.
At 4:58 a.m., the Generalitat Fire Department received a notice of a fire on the ground floor of the block of flats at Ronda Vilassar, 10, next to Maria Vidal street. At the scene, two people have been found, a 54-year-old man, who died of smoke inhalation, and a 90-year-old woman, who has been rescued by the Local Police and Mossos d'Esquadra, tearing out a gate from the that she was able to leave and be transferred to the Mataró Hospital due to smoke inhalation.
The fire has burned a room for reasons that are still unknown and that are being investigated by the Mossos d'Esquadra. Eight Fire Departments, in addition to the Medical Emergency System, Mossos d'Esquadra and Local Police, moved to the scene of the events. The residents of the building, who were evicted in a preventive manner, were able to return to their homes.
To the victim, the 54-year-old man, the medical personnel of the Medical Emergency System (SEM) have carried out resuscitation maneuvers without success and, finally, they have certified his death. The Consistory regrets the death of that person and makes municipal services available to the affected family.
In the place, seven endowments of the Fire Department of the Generalitat worked that were able to consider the fire under control at 05:42 hours. Once turned off, they checked the apartment, which has been totally affected by smoke and high temperatures, and also the rest of the building (ground floor plus four floors).
The Mossos d'Esquadra, which has dispatched four patrols, has taken charge of the judicial proceedings and the investigation of the causes of the fire. Members of the Local Police and three units of the (SEM) have also worked on the device.
