“On the radio I have learned everything about life... or almost everything”

You don't have political ideas?

The journalist asks, does not air his ideas.

And what's wrong with airing them?

That weakens you as a journalist.

Because?

Your questions are your weapon... and you weaken them if they infer that you subordinate them to your ideas.

Her secret as an interviewer of politicians at her Cafè d'idees is...

I study the character in depth to extract some truth that he did not plan to reveal, and that is why I ask him and ask him again.

Do you ask again for annoying?

At the! If something isn't clear to me, let me know. It's not because it bothers you, it's because you understand.

What does she understand about herself?

That I always pedal. “You should never give up,” my father told me.

And his mother?

He died in 2007 and I would like his kindness, humility, beauty and sweetness for me. “Shortcut, girl!”: She urged me not to go around.

The girl you were, what did you want?

I didn't doubt it: I would be a Zoom ballet dancer! And she would turn off the TV during the commercials and dance for my parents and siblings.

She wanted to be seen, from what I see.

“Who wants to read the reading?” the nuns asked. And I always raised my hand. And I fainted.

Why was he fainting?

I wanted to read, but walking towards the lectern I was afraid I would do it wrong... and I would faint.

And today, what?

Every morning, as I go to the set, I ask myself, “Why do I do this job?”

And... why did you become a journalist?

At school we put on a play and one of the characters was a journalist. “That word sounds good,” I said to myself. “Tell others what happens... That's what I'll do!”

And did you study Journalism?

Yes, and at the same time I collaborated on Ràdio Vilassar de Dalt: I was only 17 years old. Since then I have worked, always pedaling, you see?

It's already... 40 years! of microphones.

At the age of 21 I worked at Dit i fet (TV3), I played music in the early morning hours of Ser... and in 1990 I released Parlar per parlar, then Hablar por taller, until 1997.

Many people still remember it.

“I made my career listening to you!”, an entire vice president of the Government has confessed to me... And so many people.

Everyone listened and many called.

Homosexuals, assaulted women... It was a necessary program. On the radio I have learned everything about life... or almost everything.

And they offered him La Ventana.

I accepted. And minutes before debuting, at the Ser studios in Madrid..., I was crying from fear in a bathroom, locked alone.

And what did you do then?

Pedal! As usual. I left, I arrived at the microphone crying. And I started. Lady Di recently dead, we changed the program from top to bottom. It was September 1997.

And you were in charge of La Ventana for many years... How many were there?

Until 2012: fifteen years in a row!

What happened to you in those fifteen years?

Everything happened to me: I got married, my nephew died, Ernest Lluch was murdered, my brother died, I lost and recovered my voice twice, my two children were born... Everything!

I remember what Ernest Lluch did... it was terrible: did you read that manifesto...

“I am sure that Ernest Lluch would have even tried to talk to the person who killed him. You, who can, talk.”

And San Quentin got involved.

A call from Enric Lluch, Ernest's older brother, gave me a lot of peace: “I would have spoken with the person who killed him in the intimate conviction that he would have convinced him not to kill him,” he told me on the phone.

What are you most proud of about your fifteen years at the helm of La Ventana?

Having given a voice to prisoners in prisons. And the children, too. And to the mentally ill. And philosophers, fathers of the Constitution, artists... Very brilliant people, without ever restricting their freedom of speech.

And the Ser bosses fired her...

They, who would know a lot about radio, would think that without me the Ser channel would improve.

Surely they have asked him to come back.

Well yes. But I'm not coming back, I replied.

Did you justify your refusal?

“How do you want me to leave Cafè d’idees, where I am enjoying so much?” On Ràdio 4 since 2019 and since 2020 it can also be seen on La 1 on TVE Catalunya.

Would you say that being a woman has benefited or harmed you in your work?

My feminine sensitivity, putting myself in the shoes of others, constitutes a strength for a good journalist... no matter how much some interpret it as a weakness.

What would you never do to gain a little more audience?

Lie. Or hurt knowingly. Or do something that I would be embarrassed to hear or see.
