On provisional release the mother accused of selling her baby for 2,000 euros in Badajoz

The Court of First Instance and Instruction number 1 of Don Benito has decreed provisional release for the mother of the baby that she was supposedly going to sell to a married couple after giving birth last Monday night at the hospital in this Badajoz municipality.

The 28-year-old woman has gone to court this Thursday, after the couple - a 43-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man - and the latter's brother, 30, did it yesterday.

As reported by the Superior Court of Justice of Extremadura (TSJEx), the woman will have the obligation to appear in court on the 1st and 15th of each month.

The judge, as he did with the couple investigated for the crimes of illegal adoption and document falsification, has decreed for the parent the withdrawal of the passport and a restraining order on the minor, who has been taken over by the Junta de Extremadura.

The woman and the couple were arrested on Tuesday for their alleged involvement in a case of surrogacy, illegal in Spain, at the Don Benito-Villanueva regional hospital (Badajoz).

The hospital center was the one that notified the police after realizing that the data on the parturient did not match her appearance. Agents interviewed the child's alleged father at the hospital. The National Police stressed that, after numerous inconsistencies in their statements, they took a series of steps that allowed them to conclude that the baby's mother had been admitted with the data of his wife.

Finally, the man admitted that the woman admitted was not his wife and acknowledged to the agents that the deal had been closed three months earlier in Romania, after paying 2,000 euros to buy the newborn.
