In Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia we go on a picnic in the beautiful woods, with tables, which we can find in various areas of the extensive protected natural area of the Serra de Queralt and the Tossals.

It also includes the Sierra dels Lladres, the Sierra de Questió and the mountains of Taravil. Here the forests of red pine and black pine abound, and a great variety of mushrooms.

It is an area highly appreciated by hikers, mushroom pickers and fans of hang gliding or other similar sports.

The word picnic originates from the French pique-nique, which was used to describe an informal meal in which each person contributed something, while the term picnic was popularized in the 19th century in England and the United States.

In the 18th and 19th century, picnics were elaborate social events with complex foods and sophisticated drinks that sometimes took days to prepare.

The practice of a fancy meal eaten in the open air, rather than a farm worker's dinner in a field, was connected with the hunting break of the Middle Ages.

The picnic is done outdoors and is based on sandwiches, fruit, hard-boiled eggs, cookies, vegetables or any food that is light and easy to transport, traditionally in a wooden or wicker basket. It is also usual to include sausages (chorizo, cheese, ham) and can be accompanied by various drinks such as wine, beer or soft drinks.
