Oltra sees the agreement on prostitution as the one achieved in Valencia as possible despite the differences

The Vice President and Minister for Equality and Inclusive Policies, Mónica Oltra, acknowledged this Friday that "it is not yet possible to talk about an agreement", but "you can always reach one" around the debate on prostitution.

After a few days of great tension and with forceful exchanges of statements, Oltra has assured that the Consell "is not in a position of disagreement" regarding the proposal of the Department of Justice to abolish prostitution. However, it does not seem that it is very close to reaching it either.

In this sense, the spokeswoman and leader of Compromís has pointed out that her department's allegations regarding the reform of the Entertainment Law that Gabriela Bravo (PSPV) intends are part of a "normal process".

As published by La Vanguardia, and today confirmed by Oltra, Equality considers that this modification "is not appropriate" because the eradication of this practice is "state competence" and criticizes Justice for "arrogating powers" in terms of preventing violence against women, who correspond to their management area.

Despite insisting on these ideas and emphasizing that the legal right that must be protected is the safety of women -and, in his opinion, the prohibitionist measures "make these women clandestine even more"-, Oltra has lowered the tone regarding seven days ago when he criticized the proposal of his government partner.

In addition, the spokeswoman for the Executive has valued the pact reached between Compromís and PSPV in the Valencia plenary session this Thursday in this regard. "The one in Valencia, precisely, goes along this line of abolishing the structural causes behind the lack of alternatives to prostitution," she explained.

However, the agreement on this issue does not seem easy at all. As happened last week, the PSPV-PSOE's spokeswoman and deputy general secretary for Equality, Ana Domínguez, came out as soon as Oltra appeared to respond to her words.

Domínguez stated today that "Ximo Puig's Council is fulfilling the mandate of Les Corts Valencianes, where all the groups that support the Botanist have agreed to promote measures to abolish prostitution."

This is how Domínguez has stated, after the statements of the vice president, whom he has reminded that "the concept of sex work does not exist, since no woman freely chooses to be sexually exploited."
