Oliver Kahn closes the doors of Bayern to Cristiano Ronaldo

The president of the Board of Directors of Bayern Munich, Oliver Kahn, ruled out a possible signing of Cristiano Ronaldo, about which rumors had circulated. He argued that such an operation would not square with what he described as the "philosophy" of the Bavarian club. A philosophy that is characterized by the sustainable development of the club and the absence of stratospheric outlays to hire big stars.

Cristiano's name began to be associated with Bayern since he asked to leave Manchester United. Bayern would allow the Portuguese star to play in the Champions League and Bayern could compensate for the possible departure of Robert Lewandowski. "As much as I admire Cristiano Ronaldo as one of the greatest, signing him would not be in line with our philosophy," Kahn told Kicker magazine.

Cristiano is 37 years old and Bayern are not used to incorporating players who are at the end of their career. On the other hand, an arrival of Cristiano in Munich would shake up the club's salary structure and would also imply making radical changes in tactical approaches, since the Portuguese is not used to the defensive discipline that Julian Nagelsmann demands of his attacking men.

In recent days sports director Hasan Salihamidzic was approached on a Munich street by supporters who asked him directly if Cristiano would finally come to Munich, to which he replied with a laconic "no".

The rumors had raised some expectations and among the supporters of a possible signing was an old glory of the club like Lothar Matthäus who said that Cristiano's presence at Bayern would have "charm". However, the former midfielder has appeared in the Bild newspaper wondering where the club was getting the money for the additions it is undertaking and that it plans to continue making this summer.

"Until recently it was said that there had been less television income due to the pandemic. That is why an agreement was not reached to renew with Lewandowski and Gnabry's situation remains unclear. Then comes Mané for 41 million euros, Laimer must come for 20 or 30 and De Light for 60, 70 or even 80 million," he said in displeasure.
