Olga de Soto brings her reflection on body memory to the Miró Foundation

On February 10, the Fundació Miró is hosting Mirage–Displacement, the first of the three pieces that make up the constellation that the Mercat de les Flors dedicates to the choreographer, dancer and dance researcher Olga de Soto. The work, which moves the show towards the exhibition, focuses on bodily memory and what time does to the body in relation to dance.

The Brussels resident from Alicante has presented her work in around twenty countries, and shares her body and documentary research methodology at universities around the world. De Soto has been recognized by the Society of Dramatic Authors and Composers of Belgium for her research and creative work on La mesa verde, by Kurt Jooss.

The artist qualifies Mirage-Displacement as a "set of interventions, performances, and actions of an ambulatory and durational type, in an approach that aspires to dialogue with the present works, while questioning the display frameworks."

The show is inspired by the mirage, the optical effect produced by the deviation of light rays that gives us the impression that the object we are looking at is in a different place than it really is. This displaced image, says de Soto, is not an optical illusion, but a "ghost reflection."

Mirage-Displacement is the first module of a program that is made up of two independent modules, and consists of the literal displacement of the Mirage show (mirage) to the exhibition space. The choreographer imagined that by moving the show from the scene to the exhibition, she would unfold herself.

Little by little, the work creates a collective memory through the accumulation, succession and overlapping of actions, materials and bodies. Given the nature of de Soto's show, its duration varies depending on the place and context in which it is performed.

This constellation dedicated to her by the Barcelona dance house focuses on the study of body memory and the observation of what time does to the body and how it transforms it and the relationship with dance. The other two pieces, Incorporate what remains here in my heart and Incorporate Kids, the show for the little ones, will be performed at the Mercat de les Flors on February 11 and 12, where the documentary films of the artist.
