Nearly 7.7 million of the tourist tax return to the city

The most notable program that will be promoted is called “Live the sailing”, to introduce this sport to the youngest people in the city. One million euros will be contributed and it is expected that 17,000 sixth-grade students from the city's 359 educational centers will visit one of the sailing schools there. The initiative is part of the promotion of the blue economy in the city, to promote the Barcelona coastline as a common, safe and attractive setting for sailing.

The other projects financed with the amount approved today in the Government Commission are the following:

Income from tourism grows

In 2024, around twenty million euros are expected to enter municipal funds from the IEET, which will be added to those from the city-specific municipal surcharge established from 2022. Taxation derived from tourism will become the third municipal income, with a collection of close to one hundred million euros annually.

Apart from the eight agreed projects, they will now also benefit from this taxation, for example, the BCN School Climate Plan, recently announced, which provides for the air conditioning of 170 educational centers in the city between 2024 and 2029.
