Mystery solved: the bond that unites Luis Miguel and the woman who could be his mother

Luis Miguel has become one of the legends of Latin music. El Sol de México also has that halo of mystery that undoubtedly shapes the great figures; And there are still many mysteries of his life to be solved. For example, knowing if his mother, the Italian-Argentine Marcela Basteri, is alive.

Marcela Basteri disappeared on August 19, 1986, when she was in Spain with the singer, then a teenager. Her body was never found, and everything indicated that her husband and father of the artist, the Spaniard Luis Gallego Sánchez - known as Luisito Rey - could have had something to do with it. However, a few months ago, the artist's cousins, Ivana and Flavia Basteri, underwent DNA tests, convinced not only that their aunt was alive, but that she was a woman who lives in Argentina.

The woman in question is Honorina Campos García, who until now was believed to be an Asturian woman who had been left for dead. However, the striking physical resemblance of Montes to Basteri - in addition to their features, both coincide with the presence of three moles in highly distinctive places - was enough for the nieces of the missing woman to have serious doubts that that woman was the aunt. her.

In 2018, the two asked the judge to take a DNA test to compare their genetic material and that of Montes, who is currently admitted to a Buenos Aires psychiatric hospital. A process that seemed to put an end to one of the great and most painful mysteries of the artist's life.

After analysis in a laboratory in Miami (United States), the results have already been obtained. At the time, several specialists analyzed Montes' physical characteristics and concluded that the woman was not the artist's mother. Now, the laboratory tests prove them right, since the result is not conclusive, as has been revealed in the True Secrets of America program. This means that Honorina Montes has no family relationship with Luis Miguel.

"The information obtained is insufficient to assess the evidentiary weight of the hypothesis of the existence of a biological link between Mrs. Honorina Campos García with respect to Flavia Basteri and Ivana Basteri. Therefore, this expert report is inconclusive," it reads. the analysis report.

Actress and model born in Italy and of Argentine origin, Marcela Basteri was always very close to her son, who has had his mother very present during the course of his career. It was her husband, Luis Rey, known for his abuse and financial problems, who was identified as responsible for his mysterious disappearance.

Rey also invented that Basteri had abandoned them for an alleged lover, hiding that in reality it had been he who had not allowed his mother to become more involved in her own son's life. In 1990, Luis Miguel dedicated the song I have everything except you to his mother.

Upon reaching the age of majority, the singer made the decision and bond with his father, who died in 1992 without becoming involved in his son's life again.
