Morocco detains 59 immigrants who tried to cross to Ceuta

Moroccan security forces today detained 59 Sub-Saharans who tried to cross into the Spanish city of Ceuta.

In a statement, the General Directorate of National Security (Moroccan police) reports the arrest of these people, which occurred in Moroccan cities near Ceuta, specifically in the town of Castillejos, as well as in Tetouan, 40 kilometers from the Spanish city. , and in Belyunech, 18 kilometers away.

In the arrests, the agents found metal objects made to jump the border fence, the note says.

Those arrested were brought to justice to find out the possible connections of these people with irregular migration networks.

These arrests around Ceuta occur after nearly 2,000 sub-Saharan immigrants staged a massive assault on the fence that separates Morocco from the Spanish city of Melilla last Friday.

At least 23 immigrants died in the assault, according to official Moroccan sources, although humanitarian organizations warn that the death toll may be higher.
