Second incident at Sants station in Barcelona with a high-speed train in less than 24 hours. Civil Protection of the Generalitat de Catalunya has announced via Twitter a new fault in the catenary at the station exit that has forced a high-speed train that covered the route between Barcelona and Figueras to be stopped.
The train, which was supposed to leave at 9:10 a.m. from the station in the Catalan capital, had to stop its journey a few meters later, already inside a tunnel.
As reported by the Civil Protection account, the passengers of the affected train —111 who are unharmed— must be evacuated through the emergency exit closest to the place of incident.
To speed up the work and maintain the safety of passengers, Civil Protection has requested the collaboration of the Barcelona Fire Brigade and the Urban Police.
In addition, Renfe is managing a bus that makes the route in an alternative way to facilitate the arrival at destination of affected passengers who so wish.
The latest incident took place just 12 hours ago at the same station. An AVE train with 94 passengers coming from Figueres (Girona) broke down at around 10:00 p.m. inside a tunnel at the entrance to Sants station (Barcelona). Passengers were trapped last night for two hours and the incident forced traffic to be cut in both directions.
The incident took place due to a mechanical breakdown that occurred at 8:30 p.m., something that "only affected one more train," according to Renfe sources at the time.
In both cases, both in the incident last night and this morning, Renfe applies the protocol determined in this type of situation and undertakes to return the full amount of the ticket.
