More than 23 million, the salaries that depend on the continuity of Junts

One of the reasons that JuntsxCatalunya may have for not leaving the Government in the crisis that confronts it with President Aragonès is the salaries received by ministers, general directors, secretaries and other lower-government positions, heads of public companies and other positions of trust that are linked to the presence of a specific minister at the head of a department.

The Government agreement that allowed the investiture of Pere Aragonès in May 2021 gave JuntsxCat seven departments of the Generalitat -Vice Presidency, Digital Policies and Territory, Economy and Finance, Health, External Action and Open Government, Justice, Social Rights and Research and Universities - that if the departure of this formation from the Catalan Executive is confirmed, they would depend directly on ERC, which would predictably mean a change in all organizational charts.

This means, in the case of Junts, about 180 positions in the Government that would range from the ministers themselves, through directors and general secretaries to eventual secretaries, deputies, delegates, advisers... to which more than a hundred should be added of positions in public companies dependent on the Generalitat and each assigned to a department.

With data from June 2022 of the Generality itself, in total the more than 180 positions of the Government that depend on departments of Junts add up to salaries of something more than 15 million euros. The departments with the highest salary burden of Junts are those of Vice-presidency and Digital Policies (a little more than 3.5 million) which was headed by the late Jordi Puigneró and External Action of Victòria Alsina (practically 3.4 million).

To these 15 million we must add the salaries of more than a hundred managers and positions in public companies that depend on these departments, which add up to almost 8 million euros more. In this chapter, the most affected department would be that of Health of the independent Josep Maria Argimon, put in charge by Junts, with more than 3.3 million as various health consortiums, foundations and research institutes depend on this ministry.

The sum of more than 23 million euros may fall short by not counting the allowances and the salaries of other temporary workers of public companies such as press officers or consultants.
