Mixed martial arts is mourning the death of Alexander Pisarev. The Russian MMA fighter passed away in his sleep last Sunday at the age of 33. According to the Russian news agency TASS, the cause of death would be food poisoning.
"Pisarev died in his sleep. He did not have any chronic health problems. According to preliminary reports, death was caused by food poisoning," the agency's statement read. Other information suggests that his death was due to having eaten a poisoned food (a watermelon) that his wife, currently hospitalized, would have also eaten.
The Moscow champion and European MMA championship finalist had a balance of three wins and two losses in events promoted by RCC and Fight Nights. His last fight was in Yekaterinburg in February 2020, where he lost to compatriot Maxim Usoyan.
