Mimi Parker, drummer and vocalist for Low, dies of cancer

The drummer and vocalist of the indie rock band Low, Mimi Parker, has died at the age of 55, as the group has published in a message on its official Twitter account. The artist was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2020. Parker's illness forced the cancellation of the European tour scheduled for this year, which included a performance this month at the Barcelona Auditorium.

“Friends, it is difficult to put the universe in language and in a short message, but she passed away last night, surrounded by family and love, including yours. Keep her name close and sacred. Share this moment with someone who needs you. Love is without a doubt the most important thing,” the tweet indicates.

Parker was the founder of the American group Low with her husband Alan Sparhawk, who was later joined by bassist Steve Garrington.

The band, originally from the city of Duluth in the state of Minnesota, was founded in 1993, considering its music in the slowcore subgenre. The group released more than a dozen albums, their first being I Could Live in Hope in 1994, and their last, Hey What, released last year.
