Mick Schumacher signs for Alpine for the World Endurance Championship

Mick Schumacher (24 years old), Mercedes F-1 reserve driver, will compete next year with Alpine in the World Endurance Championship, WEC. The French team confirmed this Wednesday the German as one of the six drivers who will compete for Alpine in the World Championship.

Mick stopped being a Haas driver in 2022 to be a reserve driver for Mercedes this season, seeing his lack of participation in the F-1 championship and after carrying out some tests with Alpine, the young German driver has been chosen to participate in the 24 hours of Le Mans and the rest of the championship.

He has signed for Alpine, but will continue at Mercedes. After Schumacher signed for Alpine, it remained to be seen what happened to his position as Mercedes reserve driver. The team of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell has revealed that Schumacher will continue for another year as a reserve, despite the fact that he will have to represent a rival in the championship such as Alpine. The two parties reached an agreement so that the German could represent both.

The German will join the French drivers Nicolas Lapierre, Matthieu Vaxiviere, Charles Milesi and Paul-Loup Chatin, as well as the Austrian Ferdinand Habsburg. "A new chapter begins for me with Alpine. I have grown up with single-seaters, so driving a car with a closed cockpit and covered wheels is a great opportunity to perfect my driving skills...", commented Michael Schumacher's son.

"This year I have missed racing a lot. It is what I have liked to do since I was a child and sometimes it was difficult to see the other drivers go out on the track," added the German driver.

In this way, he will follow in the footsteps of Fernando Alonso, although the Asturian took the step to the WEC when he was 17 years old in Formula 1 and with two world championships behind him. His experience in motorsport helped the Spaniard win the Championship, thus winning his 4th world title: One Karting World Championship title, two Formula 1 titles and one Endurance World Championship title.
