Michel Camilo and Tomatito return to the sound of the 'Concierto de Aranjuez'

Two iconic figures of music without borders return to the Palau de la Música Catalana (8:30 p.m.), the Dominican pianist Michel Camilo and the guitarist Tomatito, who fused their voices for the first time at the same Barcelona International Jazz Festival.

That first meeting on stage was indescribable, and 30 years later they continue to put together a unique and complementary performance that no one was able to predict. On this occasion they venture to interpret the score of the famous Concierto de Aranjuez by Joaquín Rodrigo, which premiered on November 9 at the Palau de la Música in the 1940s.

For his part, Michel Camilo is considered one of the masters of jazz. His art is capable of combining different genres that range from classical music to Dominican popular music and Caribbean rhythms, including his specialty: Latin-jazz.

Instead, Tomatito, the artistic name of José Fernández Torres, has its origin in Spanish flamenco music. In fact, he is known for performing with Camarón de la Isla and also for being the substitute for him in some concerts in the 80s and 90s.

The return to the place where it all began will once again be a unique performance, intertwining the joint repertoire that both artists have been developing throughout their musical careers. Michel Camilo and Tomatito will also recreate the piece Spain by the outstanding figure Chick Corea, as they have done previously in other concerts together. In Camilo's words it will be “a night of great joy”.
