Mercadona increases the salary of its staff in accordance with the CPI

Mercadona's Management Committee has agreed to increase the salary of all its staff in accordance with the CPI on the total salary of the staff including supplements, instead of on the base salary as indicated in its company agreement.

This measure will come into force as of the January payroll of the more than 96,000 workers that Mercadona has in Spain and Portugal, according to the CPI for the month of December for each country.

"The objective is to maintain the purchasing power of all the people who are part of Mercadona, because they are the best asset for customers," the company said in a statement.

Mercadona has indicated that it increased wages by 6.5% in Spain and 2.7% in Portugal in 2022, which meant an increase in its fixed costs, and launched a series of measures such as the digitization of its processes and the commitment to raise awareness of the entire staff in analyzing the costs incurred. "Movements that have resulted, at the expense of the end of the financial year, an increase of 9% in its productivity and cost savings of more than 200 million euros," the company highlighted.
