Mbappé rejects Real Madrid's offer and will renew with PSG

Kylian Mbappé's soap opera has ended and he has done it in the worst possible way for Real Madrid. The French striker has chosen to accept PSG's mega-million dollar renewal offer and reject Real Madrid's also millionaire but less. It was Mbappé himself who called Florentino Pérez, who had just arrived in Belgrade to attend the final four of the Euroleague basketball, to announce that he was breaking the verbal agreement that he had reached with the whites last summer.

The outcome of the Mbappé case has not surprised Madrid. The leaders of the white club were already on Friday night, after the game with Betis, frankly pessimistic about it. Quite the opposite of a week ago, when they considered that the French star complied with the outlined route plan and everything seemed that he was going to resist the pressure of PSG, who had almost turned the renewal of their player into a matter of state, with the intervention of the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, included.

Although the renewal of Mbappé by PSG is not yet official, French media such as RMC and L'Équipe already take it for granted, as well as the Madrid newspaper Marca. The feeling is that the player himself will announce it tonight in public at the end of PSG-Metz with which Ligue 1 closes.

Real Madrid's offer to Mbappé was for a signing premium of 130 million, plus a 40 million salary per season, plus the concession to the player of 100% of his image rights, something that the white club usually considers non-negotiable. From French media it is argued that the PSG renewal premium is 300 million.

For Madrid, the loss of Mbappé, for whom they had been sighing since 2017, is a very hard blow with a week to go before the Champions League final. Not only a blow to the prestige and hiring power of Florentino Pérez. He was the footballer who was counted on to build the sports project around him for the next ten years. For a team present in five of the last nine Champions League finals, this is proof of the impossibility of competing in the market with clubs, such as PSG, whose financing does not depend on their sporting evolution.

Without Erling Haaland, already at Manchtser City, and without Kylian Mbpapé, who is still at PSG, a priori the two reference players for the next decade, Madrid's future involves reinventing itself with other wicks. Right now it is not known which ones. But the truth is that without Mbappé nothing will be the same.
