Marivent opens its doors to Balearic society

The Marivent Palace, summer residence of the royal family, will open its doors this year to representatives of the Balearic authorities and society on the occasion of the reception that the King and Queen, accompanied by Queen Sofía, will offer in their gardens on the next 4 of August. Suspended for two years due to the pandemic, attended by almost a thousand people, it is moved from its traditional setting in the Almudaina Palace in a gesture from the King to take advantage of the possibilities of a venue managed and maintained by the Balearic Government.

The King plans to arrive in Mallorca this afternoon and for tomorrow the hearings with the Balearic authorities have already been announced, which, like other years, will be held in the Almudina Palace, located next to the Palma Cathedral and owned by National Heritage. Francina Armengol, President of the Govern, will head the list of audiences that also includes Vicenç Thomas, President of the Parlament; Josep Francesc Hila, Mayor of Palma and Catalina Cladera, President of the Consell de Mallorca,

It will not be the only official act on the royal agenda, since Álvaro García Ortiz will take office on Tuesday as the new state attorney general, replacing Dolores Delgado, who resigned last week for health reasons. The act has not yet been announced since García Ortiz's appointment will not be official until, after it is approved next Monday by the Council of Ministers, it is published in the Official State Gazette. The inauguration, which is being held in Mallorca since the King has moved his official residence to Marivent, will also be attended by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the President of the Supreme Court and the General Council of the Judiciary, Carlos Lesmes.

Sánchez will also maintain the usual summer office with the King on August 2 and, later, a press conference is scheduled in which the chief executive will give an account of government affairs.

The week of the King in Mallorca, in which the official acts will alternate with his participation in one of the regattas of the Copa del Rey Mapfre, which this year celebrates its 40th edition, and with the traditional family pose together with the Queen, the princess Leonor and the infanta Sofía, will close on Saturday when, from Palma, he travels to Colombia to attend the inauguration of the new president Gustavo Petro. On his return to Spain, the King, together with the Queen and their daughters, will begin a few days of private vacation.
