Marc Márquez, successfully operated on the right humerus in a three-hour intervention

Marc Márquez has undergone successful surgery for the fourth time on the right humerus, in a three-hour operation at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester (United States). According to his team, the Cervera pilot underwent a humeral osteotomy "without complications" by the team led by Dr. Joaquín Sánchez Sotelo.

Márquez, who was accompanied by his trusted physiotherapist, Carlos García, will remain in the Mayo Clinic for the next few days to recover in the postoperative phase, before returning to Spain to continue his treatment.

According to the medical report provided by the Repsol Honda team, Dr. Sánchez Sotelo assures that "despite the complexity of the intervention, the final result has been satisfactory".

The surgery has consisted "in the extraction of the two proximal screws of the posterior plate previously placed by Dr. Samuel Antuña in December 2020, followed by a rotational humeral osteotomy". According to Sánchez Sotelo, "this procedure consists of making a transverse cut of the humeral bone to rotate the humerus along its axis. The amount of external rotation performed today was approximately 30 degrees."

According to the doctor, "The humerus has been stabilized in the new position by means of an anterior plate with multiple screws. The surgery has been completed without incident. We would like to wish Marc Márquez a speedy recovery and a successful return to his professional career."

The medical report does not specify recovery times or estimates of return to activity, although Marc Márquez gave up on the 2022 season by announcing in Mugello that he was going to have another operation.
