Macarena Olona leaves Vox and abandons political activity

The deputy of Vox, Macarena Olona, has announced that she is leaving Vox and abandoning political activity due to medical prescription, and she does so just over a week after being sworn in as an Andalusian parliamentarian. In a statement that she has posted on her social networks, and which has more than 4,900 reactions at the moment, the woman from Alicante pointed out that "after more than three years dedicated body and soul to public service, from politics, the time has come to put an end to this stage for medical reasons beyond my control”.

Olona explained that "I managed to conclude the Andalusian electoral campaign. (...) I thought that my will alone would be enough, but health does not understand commitments and now I have to face an important personal challenge, by medical prescription, incompatible with media exposure and the dedication that Andalusia deserves".

Government representatives and members of the Popular Party have been the first to react to the news. The Minister of the Presidency, Interior, Social Dialogue and Administrative Simplification, Antonio Sanz, wanted to convey to the State attorney her "respect and affection for her" as well as she has wished her good health ".

Juanma Moreno, president of the Andalusian Government, has also dedicated a few words to the leader of Vox in the region on his social networks. "People are above politics," she wrote, as she wished him "a speedy recovery."

Juan Marín, who was the leader of Cs in Andalusia and eternal rival of Vox, has also wanted to send his good wishes to the woman from Alicante, as have other people from the world of politics, such as Toni Cantó, Inés Arrimadas or Cayetana Alvarez de Toledo.

It was this morning when the parliamentarian, who drew the attention of public opinion with her controversial interventions in the Congress of Deputies and which led her to the Board's candidacy on 19-J, communicated her decision to the national leader of the extreme right, Santiago Abascal. "I can only have words of gratitude" for her, "I am sure that the great service she has provided to Vox and Spain is nothing compared to what she will provide in the future," commented the leader of the formation, while adding that " In this house, which is yours, you will always have open doors".

However, in the future plans of the Alicante is not to return to the front row in politics. Olona has explained that she will return to her position as state attorney "as soon as possible."

Let us remember that politics was Vox's commitment to bring about a "real change" in Andalusia in the regional elections that were held last June. However, his candidacy was, from the outset, involved in controversy. Since his registration in the Granada municipality of Salobreña, a highly criticized issue, as well as the community's ignorance and the content of his rallies, the result was that the 'Olona effect' deflated throughout the electoral campaign.

And the results of the elections did nothing but confirm this loss of strength. When it was expected that those of Vox would have a broad representation in the Andalusian Chamber and become the key to Moreno's government, the PP turned this idea around, achieving an overwhelming absolute majority (58 seats). Despite the fact that the extreme right managed to improve its results in the region compared to 2018, translated into seats, they only got 2 more, taking 14 seats in this legislature.

It was on July 21 when she and her colleagues took the oath of office in Parliament during the second session of the Investiture Debate. Eight days later, Macarena Olona announces her resignation.
