Macarena Gómez triples under the orders of Paul Ekaitz

Pepa, the dog who lives with the artist Paul Ekaitz has stayed at home this time, a stone's throw from the contemporary art gallery La Plataforma, which for a couple of weeks has been hosting an exhibition dedicated to his work and that of José Hernández. Ten. Two long-standing creators, and friends, who have filled the renowned space of Poblenou with daring talent.

The space that more than a decade ago fell in love with the Venezuelan Claudia Costa had been a printing house surrounded by junkyards and still has a beautiful patio with plants and a lemon tree (which perished last year). Right at the end of the patio there is a small room that from time to time acts as a gastronomic laboratory and that Paul Ekaitz literally squatted to set up one of the sets in which he reproduces his message.

For the occasion, the creator has had the collaboration of the Cordovan actress who lives in a farmhouse in the Empordà, Macarena Gómez. "I didn't have to think about anything. I've spent many years coinciding with Paul in events related to cinema, fashion or art, we have a few good friends in common, and as soon as he proposed the idea, we looked for a day, I got on the train and here I am".

The actress does not refuse the indications of the artist who has sought out the stylists, Fermín Serrete and Gilles Saint Martín, and the make-up artist Yolanda Blascó, to define the three women represented by Macarena Gómez in the work. "The journey of a tormented woman to find herself," describes the author. Fashion photographer Sergi Jasanada, a regular contributor to fashion tutorials for La Vanguardia, is in charge of photographing the three women created by Ekaitz.

There is a sexy and empowered reference who masturbates lying on a divan; another that cries while she reads a volume on intellectuals of the 20th century and a third that looks at herself in the mirror while she plays a piece on the keyboard and that returns the distorted image.

The scene is surrounded by randomly chosen elements but all of them have an order, a rhythm and contribute to the message of the work. A stone in the center of the image that resembles a meteorite that can fall at any moment breaking the dreams of the three women. But that in turn is crossed by a beam of red light that is the energy with which it fights against any disagreement.

The work, a scenography with action, will be exhibited starting this weekend at the La Plataforma gallery, which will participate on the weekend of June 3 to 5 in the Ar DE, art and design festival, programmed by the Poblenou Urban association District, an authentic cultural revitalizing platform for these neighbourhoods.

Macarena Gómez is not the first actress to pose for Paul Ekaitz. This specific project started with Bibiana Fernández and later it was Rossy de Palma who was encouraged to collaborate with the artist. Given the success, the creator does not rule out continuing his work with new actresses to whom he gives a new life and dimension in their canned choreographies on a photography set.
