The former coach of the Spanish national team, Real Madrid or Sevilla, among others, has been chosen to relieve Bruno Lage on the bench of the English team: "From the beginning, Julen has been our number one option to manage Wolves, and we look forward to welcoming him and his team when they join us in the coming weeks," Shi said.

The team, currently penultimate with 19 points from 13 games, is now in the hands of interim Steve Davis, who took over after Lage's dismissal, and will continue to do so for the next two weeks. This afternoon, the wolves host Brighton and next Saturday they will also face Arsenal at home, in the last game with Davis on the bench.

Lopetegui will take charge of the team from Monday, November 14, to meet the squad and start working, although he will not debut in competition until more than a month later, due to the break in all the leagues due to the dispute over the Qatar World Cup (November 20-December 18). The Gipuzkoan coach will debut in competition on December 26, away, against Everton.

Lopetegui began his coaching career in the youth team of the Spanish national team, before moving on to Rayo Vallecano in the Second Division and Portuguese side Porto. He took over as senior Spain coach in 2016 following the departure of Vicente Del Bosque, leaving to become Real Madrid manager in 2018. He was sacked just three months later.

Lopetegui's most successful foray at club level came at Sevilla, whom he guided to the Europa League title in 2020, but the LaLiga outfit sacked him last month after a poor run of results left them in 17th place in the ranking.
