Lewandowski, shocked to read the hurtful messages that players receive on networks

On the occasion of International Women's Day, which is commemorated on March 8, FC Barcelona has joined the thousands of messages throughout the world that have highlighted the role of Women and criticized those who try to undermine them. The striker Robert Lewandowski and the defender Mapi León have criticized in a video the messages in which the Barcelona women's first team is disrespected on social networks.

In a campaign under the slogan 'Equality is in our colours', the Polish striker can be seen shocked as he reads the hurtful messages that are coming his way, all of them a real selection of those received by the players of the women's first team on Instagram, such as like "Stop posting about this stupid team, nobody cares", "Go to the kitchen" or "Women's football is not real football".

Through a video published on the Barcelona website, the club seeks to raise awareness about equality between men and women so that "the next generations go further in the fight for their dreams than the women's players will."

"These comments are very difficult to read and hear, even for myself," said Lewandowski in the video, who also gave the example of his wife as a reference and a person whom he admires for the daily effort he makes to achieve his dreams. and prove your worth.

Mapi León lamented that "because of being a woman, you must demonstrate much more to be taken seriously." The Spanish international spoke in the first person of her case at school, where no one believed in her future as a footballer when she played in the yard because she was a girl.

The Barça club has completely devoted itself to Women's Day and has also shared a conversation with the captain of the first team, Irene Paredes, about gender equality. “Society is changing, the way we look at ourselves as soccer players and as women. Every time we get better conditions, which in the end is what we want ”, she maintains.

For the Basque club, the key to everything is to offer equal opportunities so that they can develop: “What we want is to have the same opportunities. It would be nice if we could equalize the laws and agreements, and in this way, by forcing everyone to offer us the same conditions, we will be able to practice football in a much more professional way, which is more attractive to the spectator. There will always be people who don't like it, but this way there will be better players and also a better show."

In addition, FC Barcelona has registered with Pantone the 'lila Barça', the color resulting from mixing the blue and maroon that characterize the Catalan team. This color will dress both the Camp Nou Spotify and the Johan Cruyff Stadium throughout the month of March, beginning with those of both the men's and women's first teams last weekend.

This weekend, coinciding with matchday 21 of the F League, all the teams will pose before their matches with a banner with the motto 'For you, for me, for all' and will wear a bracelet during the match on which they will wear an '8M' to “make visible the relevance of a date in which the empowerment of women and the universalization of equality are claimed”.
