Latin American literature lands this Friday in Barcelona and Madrid

That Barcelona has an idyll with Latin America and vice versa is something that today there is no doubt about. In the sixties and seventies, the Catalan capital became the capital of Latin American letters and different authors, such as Vargas Llosa, Jorge Edwards or García Márquez himself, were part of a broad literary community.

This literary courtship is still alive today and proof of this are the different activities and events that are carried out in this regard. Without going any further, this Friday the 14th and Saturday the 15th of October the fourth edition of the Latin American Literature Festival takes place, a conference organized by the Lata Peinada bookstore.

For two days, a cultural offer will be displayed that bets both on new voices and on the old ones but, above all, on the recognition of Latin American authors. This edition also comes with a novelty: for the first time, activities will be held at the bookstore's headquarters in Madrid and also at the new Gabriel García Márquez library in the Catalan capital.

Gabriela Wiener, Luis Chaves, Lina Maeruane, Belén López Peiró or Ariana Harwicz are just some of the names that will hold round tables, as well as book presentations and new authors.

Also highlight the celebration of the centennial of Trilce, the most important and well-known poemario of the Peruvian poet César Vallejo, considered as a capital work of modern universal poetry and the poetic avant-garde in Spanish.

The Lata Peinada bookstore, organizer of the festival, opened its doors in 2019 in the Raval neighborhood, in Barcelona, with the purpose of being an embassy for Latin American letters. A year later they repeated the experience in Madrid, specifically in Malasaña. But before that, they had already carried out their promise of making what was then the first Latin American literature festival in Barcelona a reality. Some time later, another initiative with the same purpose was added to this initiative, that of the KM Amèrica festival, both compatible since they take place at different times of the year.

For this edition, the organizers have had the collaboration of the Barcelona City Council, Casa Amèrica de Catalunya and the Gabriel García Márquez library and the publishers Anagrama, Páginas de Espuma, Candaya, Literature Penguin Random House, Alfaguara and Sexto Piso.
