Laporta: "It was the 'levers' or asking people for money"

On the occasion of Barça's match in Mallorca this Saturday, the Barça entity held the XV Trobada de Penyes de las Islas Baleares in Palma on Friday night, where the president of the club, Joan Laporta, justified the activation of the so-called 'levers' economics, the only way to avoid "asking people for money".

"Unfortunately, due to the legacy we have received, we have had to sell part of some assets. But rest assured, because we have sold them at a very good price at a time of maximum difficulty, which has much merit, and does not excessively harm the account of the club's results in the coming years. We have been very careful in this regard and we have managed to go to the market", the leader began his speech before the supporters club.

"We had two options. It had to be done, because either it was to ask people for money, which in no case corresponded to the moment, of maximum difficulty, of the pandemic, or to do this (the 'levers') to consolidate this recovery. In addition What we are very satisfied with is that they have had results, we have made a more competitive team. My boardmates and I did not want to ask for money in any way," he added.

Beyond the economic plot, in the sports area Laporta especially praised the director of football, Mateu Alemany, whom he described as "the main architect of the competitive team" that Barça now has thanks to the signings this summer of Lewandowski, Raphinha, Koundé, Christensen, Kessié, Marcos Alonso, and Bellerín.

"We have a competitive team due to the incorporations we have made and in this sense I am referring to a person from this land, a person who is very dear to Andratx, in Mallorca, in Ses Illes and by Barcelona fans, who is Mateu Alemany", praised the work of the executive born in Andratx, who was one of the first to join the Laporta board.

"This team will remind us of glorious times," the top Barça leader dared to predict about the team coached by Xavi Hernández, who this Saturday will play against Mallorca at the Visit Mallorca Stadium. If they achieve the three points against the Balearic Islands, the Catalan team will provisionally be the leader of the Santander League, waiting for what Real Madrid does on Sunday against Osasuna.
