La Moncloa defends the "historical significance" of the NATO summit in Madrid, in the face of criticism from United We Can

After the celebration on the eve of the 40th anniversary of Spain's incorporation into NATO, the Government spokesperson, the socialist Isabel Rodríguez, highlighted on Tuesday that the next major summit of the Atlantic Alliance, which will take place in Madrid at the end of the month June, will have a "historical significance." And he has done so together with Vice President Yolanda Díaz and Minister Alberto Garzón, to account for the agreements of the Council of Ministers, while United We Can openly distrusts the holding of this meeting in Madrid, and even denounces the contracts already awarded "to finger” to guarantee the security of a summit that will bring to Spain the North American president, Joe Biden, and all the leaders of the countries that make up the Atlantic club, at a particularly critical moment in the face of the war in Ukraine.

Isabel Rodríguez has reiterated "the strategic importance" that this NATO summit has for the Government, due to its "commitment to the values of democracy and peace". "It is a very important appointment in terms of what affects the reputation of our country, but above all because of the connotation it has at this time given the circumstances due to the war at the gates of Europe", highlighted the spokeswoman for the Executive. But neither Vice President Yolanda Díaz has wanted to confirm whether she will participate in the NATO summit meetings in Madrid, nor has Minister Alberto Garzón, also coordinator of Izquierda Unida, wanted to criticize, at least from Moncloa, the increase in spending on Defense committed by Pedro Sánchez.

Vice President Yolanda Díaz has justified that this Monday she will not participate in the events for the anniversary of Spain's entry into NATO. "I had to do a medical test," alleged the also Minister of Labor. And Minister Garzón has also avoided polemicizing from Moncloa. “You already know perfectly well the opinion of my political force on this matter”, he has warned, before the IU's rejection of the Atlantic Alliance. "IU's absolute and unwavering commitment is to the coalition agreement, and I am absolutely comfortable developing this coalition agreement, which improves the lives of working families," he said.

Yolanda Díaz, however, has once again distanced herself from Podemos's criticism of the award of the contract for the organization of the NATO summit in Madrid. "This contract was approved in terms of legality in the Council of Ministers and complies with all legal requirements," she defended.
