L'EINA-ERC and Junts close an agreement in Altafulla and divide the mayoralty into three parties

L'EINA-ERC and Junts have closed an agreement to obtain the mayoralty of Altafulla (Tarragona) for the next four years. The Republicans maintain their commitment to the coalition and Jordi Molinera and Alba Muntadas will co-lead the city for the next two years.

Despite the fact that Junts was one of the parties that promoted the motion of no confidence to throw the Republicans out of the government in 2022, both formations have assured that they will put the past aside and that they will put the "score to zero". Molinera believes that the union between pro-independence forces in the city can become an example for other municipalities, where participation has dropped due to the lack of understanding between ERC and Junts.

The republican Jordi Molinera considers that during the municipal elections of May 28, the independence movement gave a clear message: "If the independence forces continue throwing dishes at you, some of us will not go to vote." According to Molinera, the discrepancies between Junts and ERC in recent years have affected several Catalan municipalities where "there are very positive and beautiful projects".

The commitment to independence has been one of the reasons that has motivated Junts per Altafulla to agree with EINA-ERC and not with Alternativa Altafulla, with whom it has also met during the last week. In fact, Eva Martínez joined the current mayor of the city, Montse Castellarnau, in 2022 to throw the republicans out of the government through a motion of no confidence. What does not seem to have prospered over time, above all, due to Junts' demand to get the mayor's office, as detailed from Alternativa Altafulla through a statement. A mayoralty that Martínez has achieved thanks to the agreement with EINA-ERC.

Despite this, the mayor of Junts in the municipality has defended that the will of the party was to "negotiate with the two forces with the most votes in the last elections, EINA and Alternativa, to make a concentration government" with Junts as the "key" party ” and “peacemaker”, but regrets that the proposal “has not been successful”.

Martínez has assured that the party has ended up betting on the Republicans, with whom they have had a "greater understanding." On those projects that can generate disagreement between both formations. For example, regarding the projects related to beach erosion, Martínez stressed that "they have already reached agreements" and that they will continue working to "create bridges that can unite them."
