Kyrie Irving has decided to exercise his player option and will stay with the Brooklyn Nets next season with a salary of $37 million. The base, who had the interest of the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers and the New York Knicks, finally decided to complete his four-year cycle in the New York team, according to The Athletic.

"Normal people keep the world going, but those who dare to be different take us into the future. I made my decision to stay. See you in the fall," Irving assured the aforementioned medium. The 30-year-old Melbourne-born player had until Wednesday to exercise the 'player option' on him.

Irving only played 29 games in the 2021-2022 regular season after refusing to be vaccinated against the coronavirus. The health mandate then in force in New York to contain the spread of the pandemic prevented him from playing the games at home. When he competed he averaged 27.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game.

Irving has played just 103 games since joining the New York team in 2019, also due to a series of physical problems. In his career, the point guard was NBA champion in 2016 with the Cleveland Cavaliers and also played for the Boston Celtics.

Before re-signing with the Nets, Irving was going to be the most prized player in the free agency that opens in July. Without the base, the most prominent names are those of Russell Westbrook, James Harden, DeAndre Ayton, Bradley Beal, Zach LaVine and Miles Bridges.
