Keys to invest with little money

CaixaBank returns with its digital financial culture program with new chapters and protagonists who testify and describe their vital projects, together with experts who disclose basic financial concepts in a close, neutral and didactic way.

We can all invest our savings and make our money grow. “Today you can start investing from very small amounts. The wonderful thing about this is that the investment will not be of poorer quality. There are very attractive options for almost all pockets. And, what's even better, for all tastes", explains finance expert Natalia de Santiago in the new season of Mucho por Hace, CaixaBank's financial culture programme, created with the aim of increasing the population's knowledge of personal finance basics

“It is important to remember that we should only invest those savings that we do not need on a day-to-day basis or for unforeseen events,” warns De Santiago, who begins to start with a small fixed amount per month.

Any investor should know that, like everything in life, zero risk does not exist, but it can be minimized. To do this, “you have to start by diversifying, that is, making several investments instead of one. So that if one goes wrong, the others can make up for it”, explains the specialist in the video of Much to Do. But how can we diversify if we invest a small amount of money? "This is why investment funds emerged, to bring together the money of small savers and invest it together," she points out.

Mutual funds are a good option to start investing little by little, as they offer a certain return, diversification, security and professional management. “By investing your money in an investment fund you are buying the proportional part of all the fund's investments and you ensure adequate diversification. They are also highly supervised to guarantee the maximum protection of the investor”, comments Natalia de Santiago.

For the finance expert, whenever we want to set ourselves financial goals, we must take into account our life goals. "Before investing, it is important to carry out a suitability test that assesses our risk profile and, based on that, choose between funds that have an adequate risk profile for us," she explains. “The investment that works best for you may not be the one that works best for your neighbor. What's more, it may be the one that doesn't do well for yourself 10 years from now,” she adds.

Those who believe that there will not be an ideal mutual fund for them are wrong. “The reality is that there is so much variety that it is unlikely that we will not find a fund that fits our needs,” says De Santiago. “Although all funds have risk, that is, they do not guarantee us the capital; they are classified into seven risk levels that range from the most conservative, from level 1, to the most risky, which would be level 7”, he argues.

In any case, we should never feel lost when it comes to investing. “There is no need to jump into the pool without a float. We have many resources to make our lives easier, from advisors to online platforms that allow us to do everything from mobile,” he says. Regarding the funds, there are rankings and comparators that will give us quantitative and qualitative evaluations of each one of them. And if we continue to doubt, we must ask. "Before making any financial decision, we should inform ourselves and ask to understand what we need," he recommends.

The incorporation of the finance expert Natalia de Santiago joins that of the professor at the Pompeu Fabra University Barcelona School of Management, Xavier Puig, both in charge of helping to spread the financial culture in a close, neutral and didactic way.

CaixaBank resumes the digital financial culture program Much to Do with new chapters and protagonists who testify and describe their experiences. In this case, the episode of Natalia de Santiago is complemented by the story of actress Gloria Ramos, who tells, through experience in the path of acting, how investing in oneself is key to achieving our dreams.
