Kenyan Faith Kipyegon sets the 1,500m world record by going down 3m50s

The Kenyan Faith Kipyegon broke the women's 1,500m world record this Friday with a time of 3m49s11 at the Golden Gala, the third meeting of the Wanda Diamond League season, which was held in Florence.

The two-time Olympic champion and two-time world champion was already the second-fastest female legendary distance runner of all time thanks to the 3m50s37 she clocked in Monaco in August, when she nearly broke the record of 3m50s07 set by his compatriot Genzebe Dibaba in 2015.

This time, Kipyegon shattered the mark, becoming the first woman to break 3m50s over the distance, taking almost a second off the previous mark. The athlete had been clear about her ambition to beat the mark this year. "The record is in my heart and mind and I hope this is a perfect year for me," she said on the eve of the Golden Gala.

He did it thanks to the support of two hares in the first 400 m, which he completed in 1:02.37, and a third up to 800 m, in 2:04.00. From there he went solo and reached 1,200m in 3m05s28.

Behind her, Britain's Laura Muir finished second (3m57s09), while Australian Jessica Hull was third (3m57s29).
