José Navarro, Councilor for Sports and Human Resources of Elx, has resigned as a result of the scandal caused by his behavior in the El Salvador church in El Salvador last Holy Week. Mayor Pablo Ruz announced this in an appearance in the press room, accompanied by Vox spokesperson Aurora Rodil, a government partner of the PP, the party to which Ruz and Navarro belong.

The mayor has praised the mayor’s management, has supported his decision to resign, despite the fact that yesterday his government assured that they did not consider it necessary, and has considered the crisis settled by ensuring that the person affected has already lost forgiveness.

The statement sent on Wednesday by José Navarro, which was reproduced by La Vanguardia, acknowledging that he entered the aforementioned church at dawn in a state of drunkenness, but denying that he had had sexual relations of any kind either under the throne of the Christ of the Column or in any another space in the church, a rumor that spread on social networks and some media published, had led the opposition groups, PSOE and Compromís, to request the resignation of the popular councilor, something that the affected person and his group initially denied.

Today, Navarro has sent a statement again, this time that of his resignation from the councilor’s record, which he leaves “for personal reasons, to protect my family in the face of the information that has appeared these days, out of respect for my Holy Week brotherhood and my colleagues from the Municipal Government, where I have carried out my work in the last 8 months as a councilor in the areas of Sports and Human Resources”.

Navarro affirms that “defamation has been committed against me and I reserve the right to expand the legal actions that I have filed. I want to thank my wife, my entire family, the officials of the Elche City Council and my colleagues in the municipal government. the help and support provided in recent months and in these very complicated days for me, personally.

Finally, the mayor assures that “it has been an honor to belong to the XII municipal corporation. I have carried out my work in the best possible way and we have made progress on important issues for the municipality. I will always be at the service of the people of Elche and the people of Elche”            .
