JxCat's militancy supports the breakdown of the Government of the Generalitat

The militancy of Junts per Catalunya has spoken in favor of the rupture of the Government of the Generalitat in the internal consultation that the formation has held for two days, from midnight on Wednesday to Thursday until today.

The virtual polls closed this Friday afternoon and 55.73% of the militants voted no to the question that the party's leadership posed to its bases: "Do you want Junts to continue being part of the current Government of the Generalitat of Catalonia? 42.39% of the associates have declared themselves in favor of continuity and 1.88% have voted blank.

Now it remains to be seen how this output is produced, although it is taken for granted that it will have immediate effects. The party's leadership met this afternoon at 6:00 p.m. to analyze the scenarios that are opening up and assess the results.

With these numbers, councilors Jaume Giró (Economy and Finance), Lourdes Ciuró (Justice), Violant Cervera (Social Rights), Josep Maria Argimon (Health), Victòria Alsina (External Action and Open Government) and Gemma Geis (Research and Universities) ) must leave the Executive Council. Last week the vice president of the Government and advisor for Digital Policies and Territory, Jordi Puigneró, was dismissed. In this way, the Republicans will have to replace seven councilors and it is expected that they will not take long to do so, since Palau had been preparing for all scenarios for days.

The slogan pacta sunt servanda (what is agreed binds), shared by both Carles Puigdemont and Laura Borràs, circumstantial allies in this case, and the denunciation of Esquerra's breaches of the agreement that the two partners sealed in May 2021 has weighed more that what the sector in favor of the continuity of the coalition, the most pragmatic and institutional, had described as a "leap into the void", in reference to leaving the main institution of Catalonia when there is less than a year left for the next municipal elections.

The general secretary of the formation, Jordi Turull, after the electoral union requested that positions from organic or institutional positions be avoided in the face of a more than evident division of the cadres, avoided clarifying what he would vote for.

Participation in the Junts consultation has been very large, higher than all the internal processes that have taken place this year and in the short history of the party. In the end, it was the highest in history and was close to 80%, with 79.18%.

To endorse the Govern pact that Jordi Sànchez and Pere Aragonès sealed in May 2021, 62% of the 6,528 affiliates who then had the right to vote participated. The agreement was ratified by 83% of voters.

This process is the one that had mobilized the bases the most if the total number of voters is taken into account, which exceeded 4,000, although this is not the case as a percentage. The agreement obtained 3,364 supports and garnered 689 votes against. This time, as it is a momentous issue, more than 5,000 people have mobilized.
