Junts asks for the C1 level of Catalan from the civil guards and police officers deployed in Catalonia

Junts per Catalunya has registered a motion in the Senate, signed by its spokesman, Josep Lluís Cleries, in which it demands that Moncloa have all the police officers who move to Catalan lands prove at least a C1 level of Catalan.

The independence party claims to rely on article 3 of the Spanish Constitution. Said article recognizes, recalls Junts, "the richness of the different linguistic modalities of the Spanish State", while at the same time assuring that "it is a cultural heritage that must be the object of special respect and protection". It is also recognized that the other languages of the State may be official in the Autonomous Communities. Constitutional provision that has been assumed in the Statute of Catalonia, which recognizes both Catalan and Aranese as co-official languages together with Spanish.

He hides behind these Junts conclusions to claim as a “constitutional right of Catalan citizens” to “address and be treated in Catalan”. Hence, the party demands compliance with this "constitutional principle" also for "citizen security", since no citizen "must give up their own language to communicate with a public servant".

In the motion, the minimum level has been set at C1, which is the same as that demanded in the rest of the Catalan administrations for public officials.
