Journalist Mario Tascón, pioneer and transformer of digital communication, dies at 60

The journalist Mario Tascón, a pioneer of internet journalism and digital communication in Spain and one of its main transformers, has died at the age of 60, according to a statement from Prodigioso Volcán, the company he founded.

Always at the forefront of technological developments, Tascón had gone to Buenos Aires to talk about the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence, according to the Argentine newspaper La Voz. He died, according to this media, from a stroke.

Writer, analyst and innovation consultant, Tascón, co-author of 'The Right to Understand', was also the promoter of the Clear Communication initiative so that the language of institutions was accessible to all citizens.

In the 90s Tascón was commissioned to launch the El Mundo website and founded the first digital newsroom in Spain. Later he was in charge of several PRISA websites, including El País, As and Cinco Días. He also ran lainformarcion.com. Passionate about the language, he was president of the Urgent Spanish Foundation in 2019 and 2020 and was a journalism teacher at the Gabo Foundation.

His design and infographic works have been awarded internationally in awards such as the SND and Malofiej and last year he received the Internet 2022 award for personal achievement.
