Josep Maria Miró, National Prize for Dramatic Literature

Josep Maria Miró has been awarded the National Prize for Dramatic Literature 2022, awarded by the Ministry of Culture. The jury singled out his latest work, The most beautiful body that has ever been found in this place, "for his poetic inspiration and for the domain of theatrical voices".

Born in Prats de Lluçanès in 1977, Miró is the author of a solid dramaturgical career, which culminated a year ago at the Temporada Alta festival with this production of multiple voices for a single actor, which could later be seen at the Romea theater.

The actor Pere Arquillué took on the challenge of this monologue for five characters, with the sole focus provided by the production's director, Xavier Albertí. A choral text for a single actor.

The jury has also highlighted this work, edited by Arola and, in its Spanish translation, by Artezblai, that "in addition to dealing with a topic of current rage, it is based on an original prismatic structure and of enormous aesthetic risk". The award is endowed with 20,000 euros.

Miró has a degree in Directing and Dramaturgy from the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona and in Journalism from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), and since 2013 he has been a member of the reading committee of the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya (TCN).

Among his works, stand out Cúbit, La travessia, Obac, Estripar la terra, Fum, Nerium Park, El principi d'Archimedes and Gang bang (Open until Angelus hour), among others.

He has won numerous theater awards, such as the Quim Masó, the Frederic Roda award for La travessia in 2015, or the Born de Teatre award three times: in 2009 for The woman who lost all the planes; in 2011 by Archimedes' principle; and in 2021, precisely, for The most beautiful body that will ever be found in this place.

He has also collaborated in various media and, as a teacher, is coordinator of the dramaturgy area of the Performing Arts degree at the University of Girona and teaches at the Higher School of Cinema and Audiovisuals of Catalonia (ESCAC).
