José María Aznar celebrates his 70th birthday with a private party at the Teatro Real in Madrid

Born in Madrid on February 25, 1953, José María Aznar will celebrate his 70th birthday tomorrow Saturday with a private party at the Teatro Real to which the ministers of his government (1996-2004) are invited, as well as his closest collaborators of his time as President of the Government and leader of the PP. At the meeting, the presence of the current party leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, is expected.

Sources close to the former president have confirmed the celebration of the celebration and have emphasized that it is a private commemoration, with family and friends, although it will take place in a venue such as the Teatro Real, whose rooms can be rented for this type of acts.

As for Feijóo's attendance, it has not been officially confirmed by the PP. The head of the opposition has scheduled a morning event in Santiago de Compostela on his agenda to present the candidates for mayoralty in Galicia in the municipal elections on May 28.

The celebration, in any case, can recreate an image of the protagonists of the history of the PP, with the two presidents of the Government that this formation has had, José María Aznar and Mariano Rajoy, who already coincided in the intermunicipal meeting of the PP, held in Valencia at the beginning of February and in which the absence of Pablo Casado stood out.

There Feijóo achieved a joint snapshot of Aznar with Rajoy after many years of estrangement. In his speech, Aznar called his successor "dear friend" and "colleague from so many battles and so many years", while Rajoy thanked him for appointing him several times as minister and even vice president of the Government. The two called for "without fissures" and "without reservations" support for Feijóo.

This celebration takes place just a week before the anniversary of Aznar's victory in the 1996 general elections, with which he arrived at Moncloa for the first time. Some of the protagonists of that electoral triumph, which took place on March 3, 27 years ago, will be at the party.
