Jordi Pesarrodona definitively leaves the leadership of the ANC

Jordi Pesarrodona has been disassociating himself from the Catalan National Assembly (ANC) step by step. He resigned as vice president on February 18 after the schism suffered by the entity due to disagreements on the part of the national secretariat with president Dolors Feliu and the permanent committee, with the independence civic list in the background. Six days later he joined a critical internal group and has now finally resigned from the ANC leadership.

The activist and clown, as Nació has advanced, sent a message to the governing body alleging "personal reasons" and that he made himself available to the entity. The Assembly is scheduled to elect a new vice president on Saturday, March 18, when the secretariat holds its next plenary session.

With the resignation of Pesarrodona, there are already more than fifteen people who have left the leadership of the ANC. The most important schism occurred on February 18, when thirteen members, the majority belonging to the dissident group Indesinenter, left the secretariat. The situation caused the most serious crisis that the Assemblea has experienced since its founding, although in 2020, during the leadership of Elisenda Paluzie, seven positions ceased en bloc.

Indisinenter has been denouncing the "lack of democracy" in the ANC since the end of January and openly criticized the steps that have been taken to formalize a civic list that could clearly be established as a fourth option for independence in the upcoming elections to the Parliament of Catalonia.

The critical group is preparing a collection of signatures to try to force new elections to the secretariat. They need the support of 5% of the associates - some 2,000 partners, as they explained - so that this possibility can be debated in assembly.

The dismissal of Pesarrodona is significant. He was the most voted in the internal elections in May of last year, but failed to win the presidency. Finally, he took over the vice presidency for a year, at the end of which he had to give way to Uriel Bertran. However, he resigned from office one day before the February 18 event, a gesture that was interpreted by the ANC as an attempt to calm the waters.

In addition, Pesarrodona's resignation comes at a time when the ANC is preparing a National Conference of the Independence Civil Movement, with which it intends to lay the foundations, together with some forty other entities, for the reactivation of the independence movement and a possible new attack against the state.

Pesarrodona was an ERC councilor in the Sant Joan de Vilatorrada Town Hall. He tore up the party card in May 2020 to appear a few months later on the Junts electoral list as number 33 for the Parliamentary elections on February 14, 2021.
