Jordi Martín: "Piqué can't stand me because I've always been closer to Shakira"

Today, Wednesday June 7, Gerard Piqué returns to the Ciutat de la Justícia for a matter that has nothing to do with the troubles that have confronted him with his ex-partner, the singer Shakira. On this occasion, the judge must decide on the complaint filed at the police station on May 10 by the creator of the Kings League and his girlfriend, Clara Chía, against the photojournalist Jordi Martín and about which the Investigating Court No. 6 of Barcelona has seen fit to open proceedings.

The ex-Blaugrana and the paparazzi have known each other for years and although they were never and could never be friends, if they have now gone to court, Martín is sure that it is due to the open trench between Piqué and the mother of his children: "I don't supports because I have always been closer to Shakira”, affirms the photographer. Although there is more. Much more.

Jordi Martín has been covering the information related to the Colombian star and the ex-soccer player in Barcelona for years; It is not surprising that it was he who got the first photo proving Piqué's relationship with Clara Chía and that Hello! immortalized on the cover. And that thorn hurts. “I have always positioned myself with Shakira in the programs for Latin America in which she collaborated, particularly, El gordo y la flaca (Univisión). I think the anger comes from there. But I want to make something very clear: I am only limiting myself to doing my job and in this case it is photographing a very famous person on public roads who generates millions of headlines in the media, a person who arouses a lot of media interest”.

The complaint presented by Gerard Piqué and Clara Chía has 36 pages, a compendium of news, graphic reports, Instagram posts and television interventions by Jordi Martín. The enmity between the two goes back a long way and if he has finally reached court, the paparazzi believes that it is due to a mistake on his part: taking photos of him in a private place. It was in a parking lot in the upper area of Barcelona that Martín thought was part of a large supermarket. “I did not hide; when the security guard warned me that the area was private, I came out with all the politeness and that's it”. The complainants do not think so, who report an "intimidating" attitude, part of a persecutory and constant conduct over time.

Piqué and Clara Chía claim to have been forced to change their usual routines to avoid the shadow of the paparazzi and in her case, they add a feeling of insecurity, anguish and alteration of their way of life. The judge admitted the complaint for harassment and will study the request for a 3,000-meter restraining order against Martín. "If the judge orders this measure, it will be a very serious precedent for the profession, for photojournalists and for the press in general." Jordi Martín says that he never had any problem with Shakira or with Tonino, his brother and lieutenant, with whom he has always maintained a good relationship.

For his part, Martín also feels aggrieved. The photographer recounts that Gerard Piqué published a tweet addressed to him a few months ago with his photo and the following text: “Stop cocaine. Drugs are very bad." Years ago, Martín moved away from that type of life and substances, he explained to La Vanguardia, and if he let the episode pass, now he is considering taking action. "Not only that. They denounce me for harassment and then they call me on the phone to insult me? As I'm telling you, Piqué has called me to make fun of me and throw all kinds of insults at me. Well then, I'm going to request a call record from the company to prove it."
