The British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, traveled to kyiv on Wednesday, in a visit that he had not announced in advance, to show the support of the Government of the United Kingdom to the Ukrainians, who celebrate today the anniversary of their independence.

"What happens in Ukraine affects us all. That's why I'm in kyiv today. That's why the UK will continue to stand by our Ukrainian friends," Johnson said on Twitter, posting a photo of himself with Ukraine's president. Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.

The British prime minister is going through the last days of his mandate, before the winner of the Conservative Party primaries succeeds him in Downing Street in early September.
