Joan Chamorro, Manel Camp and Joan Casares, awarded by jazz musicians

The Association of Jazz Musicians and Modern Music of Catalonia awarded, last night, November 30, the AMJM 2022 Awards in an event at the Milano Jazz Club in Barcelona to the musician Joan Chamorro, to the conductor Josep Maria Sauret and his Jazz Nights Festival from Platja d'Aro, pianist Manel Camp and drummer Joan Casares, among others.

The director and founder of the Sant Andreu Jazz Band, Joan Chamorro, was awarded the prize for best record production in recognition of his more than 40 records produced in 15 years, in front of and behind the orchestra and presenting the talented young people who have passed through the Sant Andreu Jazz Band, like Andrea Motis or Rita Payés.

For his part, the pianist Manel Camp was awarded for being the author of a dozen soundtracks and the drummer Joan Casares for his effort in his musical career as a young talent.

The orchestra director Josep Maria Sauret and the Platja d'Aro Jazz Nights Festival, which he himself created, were awarded the prize for the promotion of live music 2022, awarded for the fourth consecutive year.

This summer festival on the Costa Brava has held 25 editions with 170 free open-air concerts, always under the artistic direction of Sauret. In times of pandemic, in 2020 and 2021, they did not stop doing, although the stage was changed, fewer performances than usual were offered and with reduced capacity.

From the AMJM they point out that the award is a "recognition of the 25 years of celebration of the festival with a high-quality program and a firm commitment to maintaining jazz in Catalonia".

Other awardees were Anna Veiga to a special award from the board of directors and, finally, to the Association of Musicians of Mallorca in the association category.
