JazzTerrassa kicks off with concerts by Omar Sosa, Gerald Clayton and Carles Benavent

More than 60 activities and two hundred musicians will give shape over the next three weeks to the 42nd edition of the Jazz Terrassa festival, which recovers the pre-pandemic format with the classic Jazz Picnic in the Vallparadís park. The festival will once again feature renowned figures such as Gerald Clayton or the duo formed by Omar Sosa

Joan Albert's concert will also be held this week, recognized with the Jazzterrasman award, an award that recognizes the Barcelona saxophonist's 50-year career, a classic at the Egarense festival. The veteran musician will perform next March 9 at the Nova Jazz Cava with the Joan Albert Reunion, formed by different travel companions such as Erwyn Seerutton (voice), Josep Maria Farràs (trumpet), Oriol Vallès (trumpet), John DuBuclet (trombone ), Guim Garcia Balasch (alto sax), Enric Carreras (piano), Ramon Grimalt (double bass), Xavi Ortiz (electric bass), and Adrià Font (drums).

This edition of JazzTerrassa will bring weighty names to Vallès such as the pianist Gerald Clayton, a reference on the New York stage who has collaborated with artists such as Diana Krall, Roy Hargrove, Kendrick Scott, John Scofield, Terri Lyne Carrington or Avishai Cohen, among others. The musician from the Netherlands will pay homage to the painter Charles White accompanied by Marquis Hill on trumpet, Logan Richardson on sax, Jeff Parker on guitar and Joel Ross on vibraphone.

Another exceptional evening will be the one starring the pianist Omar Sosa, who will perform together with the Italian trumpeter and flugelhorn player Paolo Fresu. The performance -the first by the Cuban pianist at the festival- is part of the European mini-tour that takes them through Switzerland, Italy and Spain before presenting his latest album, Food, next May.

Beyond the international scene, the lineup incorporates several names from the Catalan circuit, which amplify Nova Jazz Cava's commitment to local talent throughout the stable season. These are artists such as Lluís Coloma, Roger Mas, Lucas Casares, Oriol Vallés or Lluís Capdevila and Luismi Segurado.

In addition to the performances, this edition recovers, after three years of pandemic break, the Picnic Jazz that on March 19 will take music to the Vallparadís park. The open-air stage will host the concert by Carles Benavent, one of the most internationally renowned Catalan musicians as evidenced by his collaborations with artists such as Paco Lucía, Camarón de la Isla, Quincy Jones, Chick Corea or Miles Davis, and in his extensive career as a bassist and collaborator with numbers 1 of flamenco music.
