Investment alternatives: from the fun art of Gordillo to the quiet refuge of Torre del Remei

Laura Gordillo, daughter of the artist Luis Gordillo and an art consultant, launched the initiative a few months ago

An unprecedented sales record that happens while the Manicromático exhibition remains open at the Espacio Santa Clara in Seville (until February next year). And Gordillo, the greatest exponent of Spanish abstract art (and winner of the 2007 Velázquez Prize) continues to work intensely at 88 to be able to keep up.

In Bolvir de Cerdanya, just a few minutes from Puigcerdà and presided over by its Romanesque church of Santa Cecília and the Iberian site El Castellot, there is another mandatory stop. It is about the Torre del Remei, a five-star hotel with a lot of history since its construction dates back to 1905, when the Catalan banker Agustí Manut i Taberner had the mansion built as a gift for his only daughter, Blanca Manut. The idea for her is a modernist palace, with French neoclassical reminiscences, in collaboration with the Catalan architect Freixa, born in neighboring Llívia and author of other notable buildings such as the Casino Ceretà in Puigcerdà and the Torre de Riu Castle.

It took five years to build this building which, after a long period of neglect in which the hundred-year-old redwoods in the garden almost took over the house, became a hotel with only twenty rooms and a well-cared and vibrant kitchen, but rooted in the tradition of the valley.

It was José María Boix, who discovered the castle in the spring of 1981 thanks to an invitation from José María Porcioles, owner of a farm next to the abandoned tower, who recovered it in all its splendor. Boix is no longer in charge of the project but the myth continues.

Many things are still intact, its privileged location in La Solana and the century-old castle that has been completely renovated. And other things change and even improve. With the new management of Mercer Hotels, a chain that is redefining the new luxury, Mercer Hotel Torre del Remei has been born. That said, the myth continues.

Martina Pont (focusing on glass to establish the connection between the individual and matter) and Alex Añó Frohlich (with collections of everyday objects in organic shapes and punctual use of colours) exhibit their blown glass crafts at the Siesta Gràcia gallery from Barcelona.

They are delicate objects that enhance this technique, which consists of creating air bubbles in the mass of molten glass with the help of a metal tube or straw.

Philipp Plein is the German designer who dresses Cristiano, Maluma and Messi and defines himself as one of the last independent and privately owned fashion groups.

Although he complains that many do not take his fashion seriously enough (an invitation to full-fledged exaggeration), the truth is that he always ends up proposing a piece that becomes an object of desire. Of collection. Like these shiny glasses that he has edited in various shades and that cost (before they reach resale) around 700 euros.
