Internment order for Badaoui, pending his expulsion

The Reus investigating court on duty has ordered the entry into the Barcelona Foreigners Internment Center (CIE) of Mohamed Said Badaoui, the activist backed by the Parliament of Catalonia arrested on Tuesday for allegedly spreading "radical pro-jihadist postulates" .

Badaoui will remain admitted to the CIE, for a maximum period of 60 days, "pending the execution of expulsion on which the National High Court rejected the precautionary measures of suspension", according to the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC).

Badaoui has defended his innocence in his statement. His lawyer, Ivan Jiménez, explained, after learning of the court decision, that it will now be the Ministry of the Interior who will have "the last word". The defense lawyer assures that he had never seen a case "as surreal" as this but has celebrated that, in his opinion, "the innocence of the activist in favor of the Muslim community, spokesman for the Reus mosque for five years, has been proven ”.

The Ministry of the Interior maintains the expulsion order against Badaoui for participating "in activities contrary to national security". The National Court points to him as "one of the main references in Spain of the most orthodox Salafism."

United We Can joined the petitions on Thursday to stop the expulsion of Badaoui, denouncing that his arrest is an "outrage of his rights."
