Interior will reinforce at Christmas the security measures of the current level 4 anti-terrorism alert

The Ministry of the Interior will reinforce between December 19 and January 15, coinciding with the Christmas period, the security and protection measures provided for in the current level 4 Anti-Terrorist Alert. The operational reinforcement, similar to that dictated in recent years, will serve to monitor with special intensity places of leisure, means of transport and religious events in which a large influx of people is expected.

The decision, as reported by the Ministry of the Interior through a press release, was adopted this Monday at the Terrorist Threat Assessment Table chaired by Fernando Grande-Marlaska. This is a session that is held on a regular basis every year with an eye toward the Christmas holidays, a period that is characterized by numerous events of a massive nature and the increase in travel.

The instruction issued by the Secretary of State for Security, Rafael Pérez, orders the "strengthening of security devices and intelligence, control and anti-terrorism monitoring capabilities by the State Security Corps, as well as by the rest of the police forces and other institutions, agencies and operators, public or private, in matters of security, within the framework of their respective functional and territorial powers and responsibilities”. This operational reinforcement will be maintained throughout the national territory between midnight on December 19 and midnight on January 15, 2023.

The Government Delegations of the autonomous communities that have their own police forces or attached units of the National Police will urgently transfer this instruction to the autonomous authorities and will convene, if necessary, the information and coordination meetings necessary to execute the content. of the instruction.

In addition, the Secretary of State for Security has sent this instruction to the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) so that it distributes it among those responsible for the local police forces to incorporate their operational capacities into the Christmas reinforcement plan.
