Interior dismisses the head of the Civil Guard in Tenerife for the Mediator case

The Secretary of State for Security, Rafael Pérez, has agreed to dismiss the colonel in charge of the Civil Guard Command of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José María Tienda, whose name appears in the summary of the plot of alleged corruption known as the Mediator case.

As sources from the armed institute have indicated to EFE, the dismissal has been at the request of the chief general of the Civil Guard in the Canary Islands and has been ratified by the general director of the Benemérita, María Gámez.

Civil Guard sources attribute the decision to the investigation carried out by Internal Affairs and which is directed by a Madrid court to clarify alleged irregularities in the works of various facilities of the body.

Among them are the Comandancia de Santa Cruz de Tenerife as one of the ranches that contracted the most suspicious works.

In the decision of the number two of the Interior, the information that appeared on the relations of the Store with a builder investigated in the case, which may result in a "discredit" of the Civil Guard, has also weighed.

For the sources consulted by EFE, the appearance of the colonel's name in the information about the plot interferes with the operation of the Command and generates "mistrust" towards its work, whatever the judicial drift of those investigated.

The sources add that at this time the colonel does not arouse the confidence and leadership that a high command of the Civil Guard should exercise.
