There is no brake on inflation in Spain, the definitive data for the month of July, published this Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), confirms the advance and places the CPI at 10.8%, six tenths above the registered in the same month of the previous year, and the highest level since September 1984.

Food, non-alcoholic beverages, in addition to energy, drive this escalation that is already being transferred to other products and leaves core inflation (which does not include fresh food or energy) at 6.1%, the highest since January 1993 .

The set of food costs places its inflation rate at 13.5%, six tenths more than last month and that of electricity almost 50%. In July, the price of all foods rose, placing the inflation rate of this set of consumer goods at the highest rate since records have been kept, with special emphasis on dairy products such as milk, cheese and eggs, which became more expensive by 1, 6%, bread and cereals rose 1.4%, as well as mineral water, soft drinks and juices that cost 1.1% more.

Also noteworthy in July is the impact of the rise in housing prices, which climbed four points compared to the previous month, and is already at 23%.

Transport prices give a break with a rate of 16.2%, three points lower than the previous month, caused by the drop in the price of fuels and lubricants, whose price falls by an average of 8%, compared to the strong increase registered in July 2021. This has allowed the variation in general inflation compared to the previous month to fall slightly by 0.3%.

In July, the Harmonized Consumer Price Index (IPCA) placed its interannual rate at 10.7%, seven tenths above the June data. The monthly variation of the IPCA showed a decrease of 0.6%, according to data from the INE.
