Indoor cycling fever: the new 'spinning' is like going out to a party with friends

A dark room, led lights, people screaming and sweating with loud music, it looks like a disco, but it's not, it's an indoor cycling room. People have fun, feel the rhythm of the music, do choreographies, applaud, throw towels in the air, the atmosphere is more like a party than a spinning class, because indoor cycling has a bit of the former and much of the latter. But not everything is fun, you train, and you train very hard. It is a fever that spreads among groups of friends and friends, it is a leisure plan, it is also a way to burn calories and release serotonin.

This practice began in the US, from there it flew to Mexico, and currently also in Spain. The Indoor rooms are adapted so that disconnecting is guaranteed, without natural light, without clocks, without barometers, without comparisons, without screens, these rooms do not allow receiving any input from outside. In this way, being on the bike becomes an almost immersive experience, whether it is to escape from reality, to connect with the community, to do a really hard workout or to reconnect with oneself.

Although he arrived in the city in 2016, going to "roll" is something that is beginning to be known now, since in Barcelona there are already two centers dedicated exclusively to pedaling at full volume. This boom has even reached smaller cities like Girona, where for more than six months there has been a center that offers this kind of renewed spinning.

On the most famous avenue in the city, Diagonal 606, is Lapso Studios, the center that, in addition to welcoming its riders, also follows them wherever they go. In his center the classes are divided into 12 songs and in each song a different thing is worked on, they look for a balance of the game of heart rates, the bodybuilding part, the mental training part and the training with weights. Lapso is not only known for being an Indoor room, but also for being a leisure plan. They want all the activity to be a show, and to do so they have taken the experience to another level by taking the bikes out of the room and taking them to unexpected places.

Eugenia Llopart, CEO of Lapso Studios, assures that "one of our most important missions is to follow our users wherever they go, the objective is to take the same experience that we generate here and take it to spectacular places". Her last collaboration was with Bling Bling, the reference nightclub in Barcelona. Indoor cycling is often associated with partying, so the Lapso team wanted to make that comparison a reality.

Love Cycle opened its center in 2016, at Vía Augusta 10, and since then it has not stopped being the favorite center of influencers to pedal. In this center, the community is the basis for turning a ride into a moment of disconnection and pure adrenaline. Alvaro Montenegro, Love Cycle's Studio Manager, assures that there "people meet their friends, have a good time, catch up day and do sports. The bike is an excuse, it could be a bike or jumping rope because the energy is transmitted by the community”.

The classes at Love Cycle are also divided into songs prepared by the coach and the best thing is that they all have a choreography that, although it's hard to follow at first, in the end you end up dancing on top of the bike. "What keeps people coming back is that it's a place where community, good vibes, sports and fun collide at a single moment of the day."

It is the first and only center where you can pedal in Girona. In addition to that, they also have a multipurpose room where more disciplines such as Yoga, Boxing and Hiit are practiced. Its intention is to continue innovating to offer new activities for its clients. As Clara Bertrana and Guillem Burgell, Founders of Mambo Studios, explain, "this allows a 360-degree experience for a week of a sports user."

They assure that from their experience there is a need to combine a class with other disciplines, where they can really do other types of muscle work and stretching. Mambo is not much more than six months old, but he has won the hearts of his cyclists for him. The mix of headphones, colored LED lights on the ceiling and a good music session that seeks emotion, make the Mambo classes seek to take motivation to the extreme.
