The company Indox Energy Systems has inaugurated this Friday the first green hydrogen industrial plant in Catalonia, located in the facilities that the company has in Fonolleres, in Granyanella (Segarra). The opening ceremony was chaired by the Regional Minister of Business and Employment, Roger Torrent, who highlighted the opportunity that Catalonia has to be competitive and position itself on a global scale in the hydrogen sector.
The new plant has state-of-the-art technology capable of generating green hydrogen that will be reused for the company's thermal manufacturing processes. Specifically, it will be used for painting and heating booth processes.
With this plant, the company wants to be a benchmark in energy transformation towards carbon-free energy and sustainability. Its general director, Albert Milé, recalled that the firm was already a benchmark in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector and that now they want to be "direct participants" in the green hydrogen sector. "We want to be a benchmark company in the world of hydrogen and they should see us as a global provider of comprehensive hydrogen solutions," he said.
Minister Torrent praised the project and assured that hydrogen "is a key element" in the challenge of transforming the country's production model from the point of view of sustainability and competitiveness. And it is that, according to Torrent, green hydrogen gives Catalonia the opportunity to position itself in the race for energy transition at European and global level. "Historically we have not had resources or great possibilities to produce energy, but now we can do it and with the current paradigm we can make hydrogen. Therefore, we can be competitive and we must take advantage of it", he stated.
Indox Energy Systems was founded in 1967 and employs 150 workers. At an international level, the Italian market is their priority, although Acció, the competitiveness agency of the Empresa i Treball department, is advising them to access new markets.
