Illa asks for the resignation of Minister Elena

The first secretary of the PSC, Salvador Illa, has today publicly requested the resignation of Joan Ignasi Elena as minister of the interior, either by his own decision or because the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, removes him from the position.

"Enough of playing with the Mossos and with the safety of the Catalans", demanded the socialist leader during his participation in the act of proclaiming Jaume Collboni as the candidate of the PSC for the mayor of Barcelona that was held this morning at the INEFC of Montjuïc.

Illa's request comes after the tense appearance of the eldest of the Mossos d'Esquadra, Josep Llúis Trapero, in the Parliament of Catalonia, where he poured harsh criticism against the political management of the Interior area which, according to Trapero, is putting a brake on for the development of the Mossos as a "democratically advanced" police force.

“If he doesn't know, let him go home”, said the first secretary of the Catalan Socialists of Minister Elena, a former militant and leader of the PSC. In the event that Elena does not decide to retire, Illa considers that it should be President Aragonès who removes her from office.

Salvador Illa has also made reference to the blockade that the Department of the Interior is making of some initiatives of the Barcelona Urban Guard and has contrasted Jaume Collboni's "knowledge of cause" with the attitude of Joan Ignasi Elena, of whom he has suggested that it is not contributing to Barcelona being a "city of order" and in which "the rules of coexistence" are respected.

Illa has accused President Aragonès of "hiding" in the solitude of ERC and has reiterated for the umpteenth time his willingness to negotiate the accounts of the Generalitat for next year. “We need some budgets on January 1, 2023”, the PSC leader has sentenced.
